SOUTH BEND – PrototypeUS is the newest tenant at Innovation Park at Notre Dame.
PrototypeUS is the brainchild of Heather Short-Davis and Christina Herceg Tembo. The two thought the idea could help spur underutilized manufacturing capability in the region.
"PrototypeUS is a web portal that will connect innovators from all over the world to area manufacturers in order to create working prototypes," said Short-Davis. Beyond prototypes, the two hope the connections lead to some new product lines for area businesses.
Their first alliance is with Penz Products in Mishawaka. Roy Szymanski, sales project manager for the company's Plastics Division, said Penz is always looking for "new markets and new applications that will benefit from our custom services and capabilities."
"What we do at PrototypeUS is pretty simple," Herceg Tembo said in a release. "We connect an innovator to a manufacturer. That's it. We are very excited to be working with Penz Products and are looking for more manufacturers to partner with."
